Nudger played for the Blades between 1891-1910. He won 16 England caps playing for the Blades in a time when international matches were scarce. He was known as the "Prince of Half-backs" and was highly regarded throughout the country.
He captained United when
they won the Championship and played in three FA Cup Finals (winning two).
He also wrote a book entitled "Association Football" and in one
part he recalls a freezing game against Aston Villa: "I left the field
half an hour before the finish of time, and by doing so probably saved my
life. Several of the Villans did what playing they could in great coats, and
one used an umbrella!"
Nudger passed away in 1936 and no United player since has matched his achievements.
